How it all started
In the family of Laulau’s founder, Minna Lappalainen, where both parents were musicians, singing and making music together with their two children played a central role in everyday life. Many of the first creative ideas emerged during moments of singing, playing, and discovering together, as well as from the children’s specific learning needs. These ideas were not something that could simply be found ready-made, so Minna decided to start developing them herself.
Minna’s first children’s music album, Laululaukku (“a suitcase full of songs”), was co-produced with the Finnish Broadcasting Company Yle. The album included a song that had just been awarded Children’s Song of the Year 2008 in Finland.
From this first album, the musical repertoire, methodological materials, and training service concept have gradually developed in collaboration with educators and therapists and in response to the needs of children of different ages.
