About Laulau

Laulau is a creative educational company from Helsinki, Finland, founded in 2008 by Minna Lappalainen – an award-winning music educator and children’s songwriter. From the very beginning, Laulau’s mission has been to support children’s holistic growth and learning through inclusive, artistic, and playful methods, and to provide teachers and therapists with engaging, easy-to-use tools for creative and cross-curricular learning.

During the last few years, Laulau has taken meaningful steps toward becoming a vibrant international community. In several countries, our certified representatives and partners provide Laulau® training, workshops, and educational services in either English or local languages. Together, we form the Laulau® Learning Family – a network of like-minded educators who share the same passion for creative, inclusive, and child-centered learning through music and art.

Laulau in Finland works in close collaboration with our international partners to support in adapting the methods to local cultures and educational contexts, while maintaining the shared values and pedagogical principles that define the Laulau approach.

How it all started

In the family of Laulau’s founder, Minna Lappalainen, where both parents were musicians, singing and making music together with their two children played a central role in everyday life. Many of the first creative ideas emerged during moments of singing, playing, and discovering together, as well as from the children’s specific learning needs. These ideas were not something that could simply be found ready-made, so Minna decided to start developing them herself.

Minna’s first children’s music album, Laululaukku (“a suitcase full of songs”), was co-produced with the Finnish Broadcasting Company Yle. The album included a song that had just been awarded Children’s Song of the Year 2008 in Finland.

From this first album, the musical repertoire, methodological materials, and training service concept have gradually developed in collaboration with educators and therapists and in response to the needs of children of different ages.
